Carolyn Porta, Ph.D.

Carolyn’s research interests are focused on improving the health and wellbeing of vulnerable young people and their families by understanding and intervening on risk and protective factors. She has three research foci: (1) experiences, resources, and supports for LGBTQ adolescents and young people; (2) relationships among sexual violence victimization, perpetration, and adverse childhood experiences for young people; and (3) advancement of global health through university partnerships promoting one health approaches to infectious disease prevention and response. Dr. Porta has received HRSA, intramural, and foundation funding to support her research. She is a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, and currently serves on the editorial boards for Journal of Forensic Nursing and Public Health Nursing. Read Carolyn’s full bio here.
